Project
The idea for the Jazz-Makhom project was initially suggested by the Uzbek manager and musical producer Asror Isahodjaev and then developed by Andrea Romani. The central idea is to create an original melting of jazz and the Uzbek maqom tradition, bringing to life “other-ways” the Uzbek maqoms without altering their essence.This project has been developed thanks to a collaboration between Uzbek and European musicians and funded by the Embassy of France in Uzbekistan, then the same concept was extended to other central asian countries

The general idea of the project is to carry out a series of meetings/residencies/concerts between Jazz and Maqom in the countries extending along the road from silk.
A team of musicians, "Jazz brought to the Orient", collaborates with local musicians to achieve an original concert, based on the maqoms of the country of residence and infusing elements of jazz language. The idea is to make maqoms or local traditional music “live differently”.
In the concert there are moments when traditional songs are played in a traditional way by the local musicians, as well as moments when compositions from the jazz or western musician are played; there are sorts of musical TRANSITIONS and SUPERPOSITIONS between the two different sounds, a game of question-answer. Sometimes we also take the risk of trying to take steps into the mutual different field and cultures of the two sides of the orchestra. Some free improvisation ( free jazz style also ) could happen too.

pour interpréter les maqôms, est très proche de la pratique turco-persane, et date du XVe siècle. Et cette pratique est très ouverte à l'improvisation. Le projet Jazz-Maqom propose une fresque musicale qui intègre le langage jazz et forme les Maqôms traditionnels ouzbeks, pour offrir au public une nouvelle expérience auditive.
- Highlight the Uzbek intangible cultural heritage represented by the maqôms and by "makam" of other countries along the Silk Road;
- Integrate jazz language and traditional musical form of Uzbek maqôms to create a new musical object, which makes maqôms live differently while being well rooted in this ancestral practice.
- Perform concerts with a mixed team of musicians of jazz culture and Maqôm, from Tashkent to Paris, along the Silk Road.

original plus proche des oreilles européennes en 2022 !
En faisant vivre les maqôms autrement, il s'agit aussi de faire mieux connaître cette forme comme originale. Car les particularités des maqôms ouzbeks sont peu connues en dehors de l'Ouzbékistan. En plus de proposer des concerts d'expérience avec une équipe de musiciens alliant les deux cultures - Jazz et Maqom - ce projet de coopération et d'échange est un élément de valorisation du patrimoine culturel immatériel ouzbek.
Une équipe de musiciens flamboyants s'est lancée dans l'aventure côté européen : Andréa Romani (Ney), Anne Paceo (batterie), Alexis Bajot-Nercessian (piano), et Apostolos Sideris (contrebasse). En plus d'une culture jazz bien établie, ils ont chacun développé de leur vivant une relation très particulière avec l'Orient.
